Chaverim is a program of Jewish Family Service of Los Angeles that provides group and individual social and educational activities for developmentally and intellectually disabled adults, ages 18+. The program is affiliated with the VBS Shaare Tikvah program in that the VBS students "graduate" into Chaverim when they are 18. Chaverim is open to all disabled adults but Jewish religious and cultural activities are part of the program, and a Rabbinic Intern from Hebrew Union College participates in the program. Activities are either at the Milken JCC or in the community, including dinners at restaurants and Shabbat dinners in participants' homes. Volunteers are welcome and training is provided.
