Valley Beth Shalom Congregational Choir
Under the direction of its 30 year conductor Aminada Aloni, who passed away
in 1999, the VBS Congregational Choir became known as the premiere volunteer
synagogue choir in Los Angeles. He accomplished this by involving them in
debut performances of many of his works as well as those by other Los
Angeles composers, taking them to sing at numerous synagogues in Southern
California, and engaging in joint concerts with university and church choirs
in the region, where the VBS choir had the opportunity to work with some of
the finest choir conductors in the region.
Since 1994, under the direction of Dr. Noreen Green, the choir has continued
to grow in its reputation as an excellent ensemble that performs for
services as well as community events. The choir has sung at such prestigious
venues as The Dorothy Chandler Pavilion, the Gindi Auditorium at the
University of Judaism and The Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angeles in
Downtown Los Angeles. The choir has performed on stage with such luminaries
as Leonard Nimoy and Larraine Newman, and has been the invited ensemble to
numerous Interfaith concerts and special services outside of Valley Beth
Shalom. In addition it is the choral ensemble that performs regularly with
the Los Angeles Jewish Symphony also under the direction of Dr.
Green.
