ABOUT BUBBY
Bubby’s is named in honor of Deborah (Debby) Barak, beloved grandmother of VBSDS students, Henry and Hazel. Debby passed away in 2023 after a 2-year battle with cancer. Her son, Jonathan, and daughter-in-law, Hanna, worked together with VBS leadership to bring Bubby's warm presence to VBS. Bubby Debby is very dearly missed by her children and grandchildren: Jonathan, Hanna, Henry and Hazel Milgrom, Hannah Milgrom and Paul Brumfield, and Sarah, Aaron, Miles and Livia Buchsbaum.
Bubby’s at VBS embodies what Debby loved most – the Jewish community and spending quality time with cherished friends and family, and especially her grandchildren.
All reports indicate that Debby took her professional life seriously while at work, even though she left little trace once at home. Family, and friends who were like family, were her only focus. Coffee was often involved, whether hanging with her “Birthday Crew” of friends at Peet’s Coffee in Studio City, or making cappuccinos for her children at home using her barista-level espresso machine that took up half her kitchen – one of those late-in-life splurge purchases.

We remember a year since Bubby’s first opened at VBS in November 2023. Since that time, Bubby’s has offered a welcoming central gathering space for friends and family, and has been a hub of Jewish community – a living testament to all that Debby “Bubby” Barak stood for. Bubby's creates space for warmth, laughter, Israeli music, and a good cup of coffee with your dearest family and friends.
