SCHOOL RESUMES TUESDAY 10/10 FOR 2ND-7TH

On Tuesday, we were privileged to have Rabbi Feinstein join us in the Sukkah, where he shared the true story of Rabbi Pinchas. This story illuminated the significance of friendship, symbolized by the Ushpizin, as one of life's most precious gifts. In Sukkot tradition, we extend invitations to friends and family to join us in the Sukkah, believing that our Avot & and Imahot (ancestors) visit us each year in this sacred space.

Rabbi Feinstein also said, "Everything is connected to Everything Else." Our students explored the intricate interconnection between the universe, the world around us, and our own lives. This concept of unity, represented by the Hebrew word "Echad" (One), beautifully resonated with our exploration of the Shema שמע prayer, underscoring that we are all integral parts of a greater whole.

In addition to exploring friendship and unity, our students had the privilege of delving into the symbolism and significance of the Ushpizin (honored guests) and the "Arbaat Haminim" (the four species) right in our Sukkah. We even had impressively large Etrogim at our Sukkah, and students also practiced reciting the blessings for these elements in the Sukkah. You can view Photos from Tuesday HERE.

Following our Sukkah time with Rabbi Feinstein, Cantor Rafii and Daniel Raijman led us in a beautiful Shira/T’fillah (Singing/Praying) session. The melodies filled the sukkah, enhancing the feeling of togetherness and celebration. We then invited our families to stay for pizza in the sukkah. It was wonderful to see so many families joining us, enjoying delicious pizza (from Pacific Kosher in Valley Village), all while fulfilling the mitzvah of eating in the sukkah and making new friends!

As we conclude our Sukkot celebration,it has reminded us of the importance of unity, friendship, and the interconnectedness of all things. May these lessons continue to enrich our lives in the weeks and months ahead.

We invite you to join the VBS community for Simchat Torah on Saturday night as we celebrate the start of a new year together!

In partnership with the Culinary Judaics Academy, Etz Chaim Learning Center students will participate in Jewish learning through CJA's Cook & Learn workshops, facilitated by our teachers, as each workshop contains an engaging 12-20 minute video lesson (led by Chef Danny Corsun and his daughter Zoey), an associated recipe for your child to follow, and the supplemental written curriculum for deeper Jewish learning. Each class will be accessing different workshops throughout the year, and there will be opportunities for you to cook and learn as a family at home, too!

In addition to the cook-and-learn workshops, your family will also have access to CJA’s Community Hub, where you can access monthly Live Zoom cook-along workshops led by Chef Danny Corsun. Look for monthly invitations to sign up!
