Shalom Parents

We hope you enjoyed your time off with your children and are eager to see all of your families this coming Sunday!

Many of you have reached out about our programs with Gil Troy this weekend. If you have a teen in grades 9th-12th, I encourage you to sign them up for the workshop on Sunday at 1 pm at VBS.

Gil Troy will speak about the history of Israel. With Passover fast approaching, this is a great opportunity to expand upon what their siblings in the ECLC have started learning in class.

ECLC VERY BEST SHABBAT DINNERS AT HOME FRIDAY, APRIL 12TH

RSVP closes on Monday!

A special message from Rabbi Leibovitz: “making Shabbat dinner a sacred time in your life as a priority will become the most impactful Jewish experience of your life. Shabbat dinner establishes profound connections that cannot be untangled... My intention is to once again prioritize those exact values of community, of tradition, of Shabbat. My intention is that we, inside this community, once again take pride in Friday Night, just adapted to our new reality today... Shabbat dinners will build for us a sense of community, they will build for us a sense of tradition, and they will build for us a sense of priority... As Ahad Ha’am famously said, 'More than the Jewish People have kept Shabbat, Shabbat has kept the Jewish People.' It’s time for us to keep Shabbat again."

– Rabbi Nolan Lebovitz, Yom Kippur Sermon 5783/2022

We invite you to participate in a Shabbat Dinner throughout our VBS community as a fun, interactive, and sacred way to get to know your fellow members. Enjoy conversation, prayer, and, of course, a delicious Shabbat meal!

We still need at least two more hosts; please let us know if you can!

STUDENT HIGHLIGHT: ELLIOT’S MITZVAH PROJECT

For my Bar Mitzvah project, I will be donating books to a new Stuart House library. Stuart House is a child advocacy center in Santa Monica that helps kids who are suspected of having been sexually abused. Therapists, District Attorneys, City Attorneys, Children’s Protective Service workers, LAPD Detectives, child advocates, and forensic interviewers - work together to help find justice and healing for these children and their families.

The books are for families to check out and read together at home, for therapists and advocates to learn about new interventions, and books for kids when they have an interview or are finishing with therapy.

If you would like to donate to the library, here is a link to the Amazon Wish List I created with Stuart House Staff: Elliot’s Mitzvah Project

Thank you very much! Please email me at elliotig226@gmail.com if you have any questions.

ALL ECLC MOMS ARE INVITED TO NURTURE YOUR SPIRITUALITY!

Binah is a newly formed, modern women’s spirituality group that believes in the power of meaningful connection and deep listening. A small "beta" group has been meeting over the past several months to workshop this initiative.

Our inaugural gathering open to all mothers in our VBS schools will be on Tuesday, April 9 at 7 pm. We’ll have food, drinks, Jewish learning with Cantor Rafii and the opportunity to work on our spiritual practice through a modern Jewish lens. We’ve spent months tinkering with the best format for this event, and we really hope you’ll come support our new initiative - Click HERE for more info or to RSVP.

More about Binah: our spiritual gatherings are a sacred space where women unite to support, inspire, and uplift one another. Rooted in Jewish wisdom and adapted for the modern Jewish woman, our group provides space for exploring spirituality in a way that feels authentic and relevant today.

Binah is open to mothers of children in all VBS schools - including, of course, ECLC!
