Weekly Update 11/01/24

11/01/2024 09:34:30 AM

Nov1

Shalom ECLC Families, Shalom and Chag Sameach! As we emerge from the vibrant sequence of High Holidays—Rosh Hashanah, Yom Kippur, Sukkot, and Simchat Torah - we find ourselves in the period known as “Acharey HaHagim” (After the Holidays). It's a time when we catch our breath and prepare for the year ahead, mirroring the cyclical nature of the Torah which we begin with Bereishit, the Book of Genesis. With the holidays behind us, we take a moment to reflect on the new lessons we've learned, the stories we've shared, and the memories we've created. The cycle of ending and beginning is a fundamental aspect of Judaism, beautifully reflected as we start reading Bereshit/Genesis, the first book of the Torah, Chapter 1, Verse 1: בְּרֵאשִׁ֖ית בָּרָ֣א אֱלֹהִ֑ים אֵ֥ת הַשָּׁמַ֖יִם וְאֵ֥ת הָאָֽרֶץ׃ "In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth."

Shalom ECLC Families,

Shalom and Chag Sameach!

The cycle of ending and beginning is a fundamental aspect of Judaism, beautifully reflected as we start reading Bereshit/Genesis, the first book of the Torah, Chapter 1, Verse 1:

בְּרֵאשִׁ֖ית בָּרָ֣א אֱלֹהִ֑ים אֵ֥ת הַשָּׁמַ֖יִם וְאֵ֥ת הָאָֽרֶץ׃ "In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth."

Genesis Chapter 1:

The Story of Creation This week, as we delved into the very first chapter of Genesis, we revisit the story of creation. It’s a narrative that lays the foundations of the world in seven days, each step filled with profound lessons about order, purpose, and balance.

Educational Insights for Our Families:

Creation’s Order: The structured progression from light to life teaches us about the importance of order and planning in our lives.

Humanity’s Role:

The creation of humans in God’s image underscores our responsibility to care for the world with the jewish Values we practice “B’Tzelem Elohim” and “Tikkun Olam”.

Shabbat: The Day of Rest:

The institution of Shabbat teaches us the importance of balance through rest and reflection.

Did You Know?

Rabbi Lebovitz has directed a short documentary a few years ago about Genesis/Bereshit that enriches our understanding of these themes. I highly recommend setting aside time to watch "Road Map Genesis." Click HERE to watch.

As we move forward, I look forward to creating our world this year, with many more joint experiences for both our students and our families. May the lessons of creation inspire us in the weeks and months ahead, and may we continue to grow together, celebrating and supporting one another in our communal and personal journeys.

Thank you for being such a vital part of our community. Your engagement and enthusiasm make our ECLC family truly special.
